Carmen Caparrós, a first-generation Catalan flamenco dancer, was born and raised in Barcelona. Her mother’s family is from Almería and her father’s from Vera. That may be one of the reasons why the spirit of flamenco runs through her veins, to which she has dedicated her entire life.
Her first teacher was the Granada-born dancer Ángel Bermúdez, who encouraged her not to abandon her training and to devote herself professionally to this great art. After studying with the best, such as José de la Vega, Merche Esmeralda, Antonio Canales, and La Chana, and pursuing a long professional career, Carmen suffered an injury that prompted her to open her own school in Barcelona, which she ran for fifteen years.
Her other great love has always been writing.
In 2013, she published her first book: Bailar flamenco, conocer una forma de sentir (Dancing flamenco, discovering a way of feeling), an essay on her teaching method.
In 2025, she published her first novel: Una Estrella solitaria (A Lonely Star), the story of a dancer’s personal triumph, in which flamenco is one of the protagonists alongside the other characters in the story.
Una estrella solitaria is a tribute to art as a refuge and to the brave women who get back up as many times as necessary.
